Subject: SAVE THE DATE – NRC AUGMENTED INSPECTION TEAM TO CONDUCT PUBLIC EXIT MEETING ON JUNE 18th
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Augmented Inspection Team that investigated the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) steam generator U-tube wear issues will present its results to the SONGS plant licensee in a public meeting to be held on Monday, June 18th at 6pm PDT at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center. The attached meeting notice has more details.
This meeting is NOT being held to discuss any return to service of the SONGS units. The inspection team will present the results of their activities under the attached inspection charter related to their investigation of the causes of the abnormal wear. Although the attached charter includes a section describing a confirmatory action letter readiness inspection, that inspection will not occur until after Southern California Edison has presented to the NRC its plan for safely returning the units to service. The NRC has not yet received that plan.
There will be future NRC meetings, open to the public, to discuss So. Cal Edison’s plan for restart of the SONGS units and the NRC’s readiness inspection of the items contained in their confirmatory action letter of March 27, 2012. When those meetings are scheduled, details about them will be posted on the NRC’s Public Meeting Schedule webpage.
